(B-WOW) is a community-rooted, Black-led, and women-powered organization that exists to uplift, empower, and mobilize women of colour—especially those from immigrant and African diasporic backgrounds—across Canada and beyond. We are a movement born from shared meals, sacred stories, and the courageous decision to move from the back seat to the front of leadership, advocacy, and transformation.
Founded in Calgary, Alberta, B-WOW emerged from the lived experiences of immigrant women who refused to be defined by marginalization. What began as a circle of sisters gathering to share their journeys has grown into a nationally recognized not-for-profit organization committed to equity, intergenerational empowerment, and systemic change.
We are mothers, daughters, elders, and visionaries. We are newcomers and nation-builders. We are artists, advocates, entrepreneurs, and educators. United by purpose and powered by sisterhood, we create spaces where Black women and girls are seen, heard, and celebrated—not just as survivors, but as leaders, healers, and architects of a more just and joyful world.
At B-WOW, we believe that leadership is not a title—it is a legacy. Our programs, policies, and partnerships are designed to dismantle systemic barriers, amplify underrepresented voices, and cultivate a culture of belonging. Whether through governance training, spiritual empowerment, economic literacy, or cultural celebration, we equip women and families to thrive with confidence, clarity, and compassion.
We are guided by our core values:
We are not just an organization—we are a legacy in motion. A sanctuary for healing. A platform for power. A vessel for transformation.
We are B-WOW. Empowering Women. Elevating Voices. Transforming Communities.
We deliver culturally responsive programs in governance, wellness, economic empowerment, and ritual design. From board training to blessing ceremonies.
